Adél Koleszár – winner of Best Portfolio Award at the Budapest Portfolio Review 2015

At Art Market Budapest Capa Center presents the works of Adél Koleszár, winner of Best Portfolio Award at the Budapest Portfolio Review 2015, organized at the Capa Center. Adél Koleszár is a Hungarian photographer from Budapest. Her exhibition gives an overview about the works she created in Mexico, where she has been living and working for more than two years now.

With works from the series New Routes of Faith, which were displayed at her first solo show (Supermarket Gallery, 2015), and works that have not been seen before, Adél Koleszár examines violence and forced social isolation in this exhibition. She examines how constant endurance can change individuals and the social structures that surround them.

“In my work, I intend to bring faraway realities and events close to the viewers, making them involved in the world of my subjects. I want to make the viewer understand that these seemingly controversial characters, who first bring up a variety of prejudices in us, are, in fact, the reflections of a brutal social and political system. That their beliefs, their imagery, and their appearance are the reflections of an inhuman and violent society. My aim is to document these individual destinies and topics from an intimate closeness through an honest and unbiased approach in order to witness and capture the essence of the world where my subjects live in and experience the everyday difficulties of.”

Koleszár arrived in Mexico on an artist residency program in 2013. She created her series New Routes of Faith with the support of Ideastap and Magnum Foundation. As the winner of the Budapest Portfolio Review 2015, she exhibits her photos at the Capa Center’s booth at Art Market Budapest 2016. In 2016, her works were featured in the Discovery section of the Fotofestiwal Lodz and her book was shortlisted for the Unseen Dummy Awards in Amsterdam. Her works appeared in local and international magazines and websites, for example, Foam Amsterdam, Vice, Fotografia Magazine, Der Grief, Fotóművészet.
