The exhibition titled A Glance into the Present is the joint exhibition of a classical master and thirteen young contemporary authors. Károly Hemző, the iconic figure of 20th century Hungarian photography, would be 90 years old this year. This is the first time that his works, and the works of those who have received the prize founded as an appreciation for his oeuvre, are exhibited in the same space. But it is also a first occasion for presenting a photographical cross section overarching the first four years of the Hemző Prize.
The curators aimed to showcase less known series and selections of the awarded young talents, hoping to delineate a kind of joint virtual glance into the present from the various artistic attitudes. The young photographers are interested in the colorful diversity of life: among all the exciting topics, there is the atmosphere of the Mátra Power Plant, the fate of the Hungarian children in the Ukraine, the fencing lessons of the students in Pannonhalma, or the endeavors of the families escaping into nature.
