The Winner of Capa Grand Prize Hungary 2020: Barnabás Neogrády-Kiss

The Capa Center established the Robert Capa Photography Grand Prize Hungary in 2014 to recognize the work of artists who produce an outstanding achievement in any field of Hungarian photography. Last year, in October, the 2019 jury of the Capa Grand Prize Hungary selected three fellows out of those submitting entries. The three artists continued working on their projects presented here for a whole year, which was aggravated by the COVID-19 pandemic. In his series Sosem voltál itt (You Were Never Really Here), Dániel Halász, visiting the smallest settlements of Hungary, explores the fate of small settlements suffering from depopulation in the shadow of expanding cities. The work of Barnabás Neogrády-Kiss titled Kettős kötés (Double Bond) processes a personal experience, his asymmetric vision resulting from a brain tumor surgery in his adolescence. Finally, Made in China from Krisztina Szalay leads us into the enclosed world of the infamous Chinese market on Kőbányai Street, Budapest. For the fifth time Based on these works and the public presentation of the fellows, the 2020 jury of the Capa Grand Prize Hungary awards the Capa Grand Prize, including the HUF 3 million award for the fifth time this year.
