European Photography Platform

The Capa Center is delighted to be included in another EU project in 2018: besides PARALLEL, the European Union’s Creative Europe Programme has also decided to support an initiative by UNSEEN for young and talented photographers. Over the span of four years, the platform aims at increasing the opportunities for photographers to get into the global art scene and market.

Under the direction of Vandejong Creative Agency – the agency that, together with FOAM and Platform A, initiated UNSEEN, – ten European photography institutions each select five talented artists to be mentored and assisted within the frameworks of the EPP program and to essentially present their works to a larger audience, both in terms of art lovers and art market professionals. According to Menno Liauw, the strategic direct of Vandejong and the initiator of the project, talented photographers often lack the opportunities to present their work: “The EPP focuses on emerging artists who have already been recognized in their talent but have not yet had a definite breakthrough. These artists deserve better opportunities, more visibility and a larger market.”

During the program, there are a series of activities organized throughout Europe to promote the artists, while the highlight event of the projects is the group exhibition of selected photographers at UNSEEN Festival in Amsterdam each year. An important addition to both organizers and participants is an annual income analysis carried out regarding participating photographers; this way is going to provide an immediate feedback on the necessity of the program as well as the areas of improvement within the field.

Instead of developing an entirely new platform, EPP brings together the collaborative group of already existing, strong institutions and media to work together on improving the position of the artists.

The project partners are: British Journal of Photography, Photo España, Fondazione Camera – Centro Italiano per la Fotografia, FoMu, Photo Romania, Photo Ireland, Festival d’Hyeres, Triennale der Photographie Hamburg
