FUTURES Open Call – Hungarian Talents 2021

The Capa Center, as the partner of the FUTURES platform, calls for entries for its open competition FUTURES Hungarian Talents 2021, under which five creators will be selected to participate in the European photography platform this year.

The aim of the FUTURES platform started in 2017 is to bring attention to the talented, emerging photographers of Europe. Co-funded by the Creative Europe program of the European Commission, the project provides an opportunity for creating art, as well as for exposure and mobility for hundreds of artists selected by the leading art institutions of Europe, year by year. The project is realized with the cooperation of 15 institutions; besides the Capa Center, partner institutions include the British Journal of Photography (UK), The Calvert Journal (UK), CAMERA – Centro Italiano per la Fotografia (IT), Copenhagen Photo Festival (SW), Hyères Festival (FR), FOMU (BE), Fotofestiwal Łódź (PL), PHotoESPAÑA (ES), PhotoIreland (IR), Photo Romania Festival (RO), Eurokleis (IT), Tbilisi Photo Festival (GE), Triennial of Photography Hamburg (DE) and the Void (GR). More information about the Futures platform can be found on the relevant page of the Capa Center’s website and directly on the website of the Futures platform.

Every year, the talents selected for the FUTURES platform meet in the second semester at a European photography event, which offers a diverse professional program and an opportunity to introduce themselves; in addition, the Capa Center presents a project showcasing the works of FUTURES talents at the Art Market Budapest.

The application is free and open to all Hungarian or Hungary-based photographers, including Hungarian authors working abroad and foreign artists working in Hungary. The FUTURES platform is aimed at bringing together emerging talents at the beginning of their professional career and not yet known in the international scene; that is, artists who have not yet had a solo exhibition abroad, and have not been awarded by a prestigious international photography competition. Communication level knowledge of English is required. We recommend getting acquainted with the work of artists selected in previous years: 2018, 2019, 2020.

Deadline for submitting entries for the FUTURES competition: midnight, March 14, 2021. All applicants will be informed of the decision by the end of March the latest.
