Parallel Intersection Budapest 2019 – Showcase Exhibition
In the Showcase exhibition, the artists selected in 2019 into the third cycle of the program present their portfolios in the form of standardized banners in the Project Room of the Capa Center.
By applying abstraction, the exhibited artists seduce the viewer into a world of ongoing equilibrium and the interval which articulates the stream of daily events. Moments are depicted that only exist to punctuate the human drama in order to clarify our existence and to find poetic meaning in everyday life.
The works sometimes radiate cold and latent violence. At times, disconcerting beauty emerges. The inherent visual seductiveness, along with the conciseness of the exhibition, further complicates the reception of the manifold layers of meaning.
The results are deconstructed to the extent that meaning is shifted and possible interpretation becomes multifaceted. By emphasizing aesthetics, intense personal moments are masterfully created by means of rules and omissions, acceptance and refusal, luring the viewer round and round in circles.
What starts out as yearning soon becomes manipulated into a dialectic of lust, leaving only a sense of what could have been and the dawn of a new synthesis. As subtle derivatives become reconfigured through diligent and critical practice, the viewer is left with a hymn to the darkness of our condition. (István Virágvölgyi, curator)
