On Thursday, 23 July 2026 at 5 pm, Nick Thorpe, the BBC’s Central Europe correspondent, will lead a guided tour in English of the exhibition Robert Capa: Report on Hungary, 1948.
What did Robert Capa see when he returned to his hometown after seventeen years away? And how are these images read today by a journalist who has spent more than three decades reporting on the major historical turning points of our region?
In Robert Capa: Report on Hungary, 1948, Nick Thorpe, the BBC’s Central Europe correspondent, revisits the legendary photojournalist’s 1948 journey to Hungary. During the tour, Capa’s photographs enter into a compelling dialogue with contemporary journalistic experience, offering fresh perspectives on the exhibition. Through Thorpe’s insights, visitors can explore the hopeful yet unsettling atmosphere of post-war Hungary, including a selection of rare contact prints that are being shown in Hungary for the first time.
