Robert Capa Café

At the Robert Capa Café, coffee culture meets photography. Visitors can enjoy a coffee or a pastry while also viewing the current exhibition at the 8F Gallery.

Event Venue

At the heart of Budapest’s vibrant cultural scene, in the immediate vicinity of the “Budapest Broadway,” stands the Robert Capa Contemporary Photography Center, one of Hungary’s leading institutions dedicated to visual culture. The Art Nouveau building at 8 Nagymező Street, conceived by Lajos Ernst, is distinguished by its unique character, including the entrance hall designed by Ödön Lechner and the colourful stained-glass windows by József Rippl-Rónai.

The building, which presents the best of photography and contemporary visual art, is an excellent venue for conferences, press conferences, corporate and private events, and receptions. Its spaces can be rented individually or as a whole, including the world’s only permanent exhibition dedicated to Robert Capa’s works, the temporary contemporary exhibitions on the upper floor, and our street-level gallery, which shares its space with the café.

Event Venue
Capacity: 150 standing, 120 seated
Furniture: Stage, conference chairs and tables available upon request
Technical equipment: Professional sound and lighting equipment controlled via a digital mixer, wireless microphones, a high-power laser projector, and projection screen (440 × 275 cm).

Atrium
The building’s grand Art Nouveau atrium is an ideal venue for receptions, with easy access to both the event space and the Robert Capa exhibition.
Capacity: approx. 100 standing

Exhibition Spaces
The ground floor and basement level of the Capa Center are home to the world’s first permanent exhibition dedicated to Robert Capa’s photography. Spanning 500 m², the exhibition presents the life and career of the Hungarian-born war photographer, complemented by interactive elements and audiovisual projections. Guided tours of the exhibition are available in both Hungarian and English upon request.

The temporary exhibitions on the upper floor span 650 m² and showcase a diverse range of contemporary photographic projects as well as classic works from the history of 20th-century photography. Up to five exhibitions may be on view simultaneously.

Our street-level 8F Gallery hosts smaller exhibitions, its atmosphere blending seamlessly with the lively café next door.

Services

The basic venue rental fees specified in the agreement include the use of the event space’s professional sound and lighting equipment, seating, stage, cloakroom and lockers, as well as cleaning and use of the restrooms.

For an additional fee, the Capa Center exclusively provides technical staff and event supervision for the duration of the event. In cooperation with our trusted partner, the café operating in the building, we can also provide catering services to meet a wide range of requirements.

Upon request, guided tours of the Capa Center’s current exhibitions are available in both Hungarian and English.

Getting There

By public transport:
By metro: M1 (yellow metro line), from Opera or Oktogon
By tram: No. 4 or 6, from Oktogon
By trolleybus: No. 70 or 78, from Andrássy Avenue (Opera)
By bus: No. 105, from Opera

By car: Parking in the surrounding streets is subject to a fee on weekdays between 8:00 am and 10:00 pm. The maximum parking time is three hours, and the area is in Budapest’s highest-priced parking zone. Several parking garages are also located nearby, including on Király Street and Paulay Ede Street.
For visitors arriving from outside Budapest, we recommend using the P+R car parks at the termini of the metro lines and continuing your journey by public transport, due to traffic in the city centre and the limited number of parking spaces.

By micromobility: Micromobility parking points are located near the intersections of Andrássy Avenue and Nagymező Street, and Király Street and Nagymező Street.

The Capa Center is barrier-free.
