As part of the FUTURES x Capa Center Residency program, the Capa Center is pleased to present a joint evening featuring this year’s resident artist, Eleni Onasoglou, and her invited guest, Zsuzsa Holló.
The program centers around Eleni Onasoglou’s project The Silence of the Beasts and the research she has developed during her residency in Budapest at art quarter budapest, specifically focusing on her photographic work at the Budapest Zoo & Botanical Garden. The presentations and the subsequent discussion explore the artificially constructed world of zoos, where space is defined and nothing is accidental. They examine the transformation of nature into a spectacle and the silent existence of animals living in captivity, where visibility is guaranteed but freedom is not.
Eleni Onasoglou’s research highlights that in zoos, silence comes first: a world designed to appear natural, while every element serves as an exercise of human power. The photographs in the project observe how nature becomes a stage and how the body becomes an exhibit, while the inner lives of the subjects remain disregarded. According to Onasoglou, The Silence of the Beasts is not only about the silence of the animals, but also our own complicit silence.
Zsuzsa Holló, photographer and veterinarian, reflects on the theme through the duality of her own practice. In her presentation, she analyzes the asymmetrical relationship between animals and humans from the perspectives of both a healer and an observer, touching upon the resignation and lethargy induced by confinement.

5:00 pm – 5:20 pm: The Silence of the Beasts – A Research Project Developed in Budapest – Presentation by Eleni Onasoglou: Introduction to her artistic practice and overview of the research developed during the Budapest residency.
5:20 pm – 5:40 pm: Light Echoes Presentation by Zsuzsa Holló: The intersections of veterinary and photographic practice; the representation of animals.
5:40 pm – 6:00 pm: Joint roundtable discussion and Q&A.
